Call to Action
The Significance of Professional Learning
As educators, we set high expectations that our students must be life-long learners, but are we modeling what we are expecting? Considering the world, education, and technology are constantly changing, we must evolve and make the necessary adjustments to our classroom culture and more importantly how we deliver our curriculum to our scholars. In order for us to ensure we are properly adjusting our culture and presentation of curriculum, we must submerse ourselves in professional learning any time the opportunity presents itself.
Why the call for action?
I have confidence that once staff, students, and families work cohesively to incorporate blended learning in and outside the classroom, students will be given the tools to understand how to learn instead of what to learn. Although, educators are only effective as their training, Without proper training and professional learning, teachers will not meet the expectations of their state, district, or school's campus. This can also cause a disconnect between teachers, students, and parents with the curriculum and testing. Teachers need professional learning with key components, such as:
content and grade- specific professional development
feedback and reflection
models best practices
collaboration with peers
provides credible information that can be brought back to the classroom and be effectively used with students

The What:
I created a short Prezi presentation to explain to administration and my colleagues how we can implement a more aggressive and intentional way of professional learning. This need for professional learning comes with my push for innovation across our campus to implement blended learning in our classrooms.

The How:
As I gathered research to identify how I wanted to present new content to my campus, I found the Key Principles of Effective PD the most relevant. It offered me the framework that would lend itself to a clear understanding of what I am trying to accomplish with blended learning. This method also helped organize my thoughts and identify critical aspects of professional learning.
