Action Research

My action research project will support my innovation plan to implement blended learning in K-5 classrooms. The results of this plan will help me gain support from my administration and district when I propose the idea of implementing it in classrooms across my campus and eventually my district.

As I was preparing my outline, two documents provided me an incredible amount of support and made the construction of my outline a smooth process. The "5 Why Process" allowed me to self reflect and gain clarity on why this problem is important for me to work through on my campus. The Action Research Design Development guided me through decisions I needed to make regarding how this research will be executed and how data will be collected and analyzed.

What is the topic of your action research?

The topic of my research is utilizing a blended learning environment for students and educators in a K-5 setting. Michael Horn and Heather Staker (2015) define blended learning as providing students the opportunity to delve into curriculum virtually but with elements of control over time, place, path, and pace for students. Students must also learn within a supervised brick-and-mortar location with facilitators or educators (Horn & Staker, 2015). Blended learning is not simply incorporating a plethora amount of technology for the sake of it, educators must intentionally engage students in blended learning.
