5304 Compilation

5304 has been an engaging and thought-provoking course. The text we needed for the course, The Influencer: The New Science of Leading Change (2013), was my favorite text I have read in any course. This book utilized real-life examples and explanations throughout, instead of strictly explaining a term. I appreciated this because it helped me see how this would look in a real scenario, which made it incredibly easy to envision what that would look like within my innovation plan.

Why do I want to initiate change?

The most effective way to influence others is not to drown your audience in facts, but instead appeal to their heart. Before change can be influenced, the want and need for change must be established and explained. I am initiating a change to implement blended learning, and this post explains my "why". My why is to enlighten parents, students, and administration why blended learning is important to me, and why it will be beneficial to students.

This page discusses how I will influence change in my organization. In addition, I cover who will be identified as influencers, what vital behaviors need to be incorporated inside and outside of the classroom, and most importantly, the sources of influence. Identifying these key components will guide how change is implemented and which components can be adjusted and modified. Our text, The Influencer: The New Science of Leading Change (2013), explains that if we want to ensure success, we must utilize at least four of the sources of influence. This plan prepares myself and my influencers to engage in different strategies to ensure our success.

The four disciplines of execution are useful tools influencers can utilize to ensure we establish a strategy and create a plan to effectively execute the established plan. This page analyzes each of the four disciplines, which are focus on the wildly important, act on lead measures, keep a compelling scoreboard, and create a cadence of accountability. I also discuss the five stages of change by explaining what they are, and how it will look in my classroom. This plan is also supported by and directly relates to my influencer strategy. Combining these strategies will be critical to creating a positive change throughout my classroom, school, and eventually my district.

Becoming a self differentiated leader and conducting crucial conversations is critical to being a successful leader. Also, if we want to implement true, everlasting change, we must place a good leader who can influence others and build great relationships, at the forefront. This post discusses what it means to be a self differentiated leader and how to direct crucial conversations.
