5318 Compilation
5318's course is all things instructional design for creating a curriculum course. I enjoyed this course, because it helped me begin creating the base for my innovation plan. I was able to plan how this course would be set up, how it would aligned with all the moving parts, and what I should adjust before the school year begins. This course also pushed me out of my comfort zone by having me create videos where I had to thoroughly explain each assignment. Throughout all the challenges, I was able to create something wonderful that I am proud of.
Instructional Design
Our initial assignment set the tone for the assignments that followed. The instructional design process consisted of identifying all factors we would include in our course. We began with Fink's 3-Column table; this table mapped out the alignment of objectives, activities, and assessments for the course. Next, we had to provide a schedule and outline of our course that would be utilized by students, parents, and administration. Lastly, we summarized how we would present our content and how it would look for our students.
Implementation
Our next assignment required us to create the actual course our students would be engaging in. This was a challenging activity because I had trouble deciding between a Google Classroom or Canvas LMS. My current district utilizes Canvas, so I chose to familiarize myself with this system instead. Although we have previously had trainings, we were not required to use Canvas and the trainings were short, so I relied on an array of YouTube videos. As I reflected on my use of YouTube for help, I understood that we should not limit our students to the resources we provide for them. Students should have the opportunity to take responsibility of their learning. In conclusion, this assignment explains each aspect of the course students will be engaging in, including resources, discussion boards, assessments, and graphic organizers.
Usability and Reflection
Our last assignment gave us an opportunity for us to reflect on our usability of our course we created. I utilized my colleagues to test my course because they are familiar with the curriculum being used in the course. This assignment allowed me to analyze the product I created and make adjustments that were necessary to my students' success.
Contribution to my Learning and Learning Community
The contribution to my learning and learning community is a self reflection of how I completed this course. This reflection is always an opportunity to make me take time to analyze what went well, what I could have done better. and also how I plan to proceed in the coming courses. This is a great tool that I would like to incorporate in the upcoming school year for my students, so they can continue growing in their education.
