Get to Know Miss Malveaux

Hello there and welcome! My name is Alyssa Malveaux. I am excited to document all the wonderful new things I learn in the Applied Digital Learning program, so that I may share them with you, and hopefully inspire you as well.

I was born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana. I attended McNeese State University as an undergrad and received a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. I am currently enrolled at Lamar University and working on my Master's in Applied Digital Learning.

This is my fifth school year teaching in Calcasieu Parish. In my first two years I taught second grade. Although, the COVID-19 pandemic hit during the end of my second year teaching, and I loved my students so much that I decided to move up with them to third grade. Now I am in my fourth year of teaching third grade.

My love for teaching blossomed when I began working for AmeriCorps my senior year of high school. There, I helped the classroom teacher with small groups and academic assistance; eventually we started tutoring afterschool. Witnessing those students' "lightbulb" go off ignited a fire for learning inside me.

My passion is technology and I truly enjoy implementing it in my classroom. I will admit that before I moved to third grade, I underestimated what children are capable of, technology wise. My students this year have created a plethora of brochures, PowerPoint presentations, and FlipGrids. I would like to spend my time during this program to understand technology more and how I can utilize it to its full potential. I also want to expose my students to different opportunities they can benefit from while engaging in STEM.
