Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.

Change is incredibly important throughout each aspect of life. As educators, we are continually adjusting to change, whether it is regarding schedules, curriculum, and countless other things that come from our school, district, and state. Change within our educational system begins inside our classrooms. It is imperative that we incorporate changes over time in our classroom and observe what is working and what needs to be adjusted for our students so we can ensure their success. I work in a Title I, low-income area elementary school, so our need for change is dire. I feel my school’s biggest challenge to initiate change will be to get the support of families. I truly believe if our students were able to frontload themselves with the information at home, we could spend more time focusing on clarifying any misconceptions and provide remediation as needed. Sometimes I send home LEAP practice for my students to complete so we can analyze it the next day. Although I usually have to end up allocating time for some students to finish because most times no one is home to ensure they are completing their work, or if someone is home, they are not concerned with them completing work. Some students may have a lack of resources, for example, Wi-Fi or devices to use. I would like to implement either an incentive or a way to make it easier for our students to complete work at home.
