In my opinion, there may be a lack of innovative change because some are afraid. They may be afraid because for so long, things have gone a certain way. In the past, I have been reluctant to adjust to change, but in recent years I have quickly learned how important and beneficial change can be. There will always be a different, easier, or more detailed way of doing things. The assistant principal of our campus encourages our innovation and allows us to share new things we learn and methods we practice in our classrooms. When I informed her about changing my grad program from Ed Tech Leadership to ADL, she was excited for me and said she would be awaiting all the new things I learn so I can present it to our staff. I am grateful for her support, and it will make our transition into blending learning easier since she is willing to collaborate with me on pushing this pilot out.
Joi Ito said we must learn how to learn, and this is so important, because as he mentioned, we have access to an array of sources in life from the people around us, to the endless amount of information we can access through the internet. The most important aspect of this is understanding how to utilize these sources and analyzing how we can use them to support our ideas. If we understand the concept of learning, we can use critical thinking and problem-solving skills in any instance and will not be limited to traditional memorization to pass an exam. My hopes are that I can encourage this type of thinking in my students with blended learning and teach them how to learn in any circumstance.
