One of the key points I took from “Who Owns the ePortfolio” is that we should be cultivating our own ideas to reflect on. True ownership does not reside in reflecting on articles, studies, and other mediums we analyze. We must create our own ideas and take control of our learning, just as we want our students to.
This has truthfully been difficult for me in this program since Dr. H does not provide traditional rubrics and checklists as most of us have become accustomed to. In contrast, he pushes us to interpret things as we may, and build on our thoughts and ideas. Although it takes some time to adjust to, it does push me to truly create and explore new ideas that I would like to expand on. While we should research and investigate different sources, we should also take control of our learning and experiences to ensure we can generate and own our intellectual property.
